Bohemian or Boho is a truly striking style that has come to stay, not only in fashion but also in interior design.

For anyone who wants their home full of life, culture and full of interesting items, this is the perfect style. This aesthetic challenges the modern sensibility and embraces the carefree, the relaxed and unusual. And although all Boho decorations have similarities, they are always very eclectic. In fact, there are not two completely equal spaces. And that’s what makes it so special.

The Bohemian style is inspired by people who choose to live an unconventional life and who refuse to follow all the rules imposed by society. This style mirrors this life by combining objects, colors and patterns from various corners of the world.

If you are looking for a style that you can customize and you want to start your new interior design project, Boho is the perfect style for you.

The Bohemian Colors

Although there are no rules when it comes to bohemian decoration (bohemian is the exact opposite), warm earth colors are common in this style, as are the metallic and golden hues. Also use deep browns, greens and ashes as base colors and give small color touches with intense purple, fiery orange and electric blue. Combining and layering colors is what makes this style so unique, so feel free to mix patterns and textures and don’t be afraid to use different styles, one of the big mistakes made in decorating.

Use dyed textiles and patterns from the four corners of the world and their different cultures, giving fun and exoticism to each space. And if it suddenly starts to seem a little too much to you, keep in mind that while “saturated color” is the key to the bohemian style, white may have a place in the decor, serving as a backdrop for richer tones . Use white to strategically bring some “peace” to the equation.

Bohemian Furniture

Boho furniture is not easily found in any home decor store. Look for second-hand (vintage) furniture or retro furniture. Each piece of furniture should be special and tell a story. Have fun exploring local vintage shops and old-fashioned fairs.

Your guests will feel the Boho vibe as soon as they step into your home, with soft chairs and sofas in vibrant, saturated colors. Use also tapestries hanging on the wall and cushions on the floor, creating a truly welcoming atmosphere. And since a Boho space should emanate the feeling of “sit down and stay awhile,” the straight and uncomfortable furniture isn’t welcome here. Choose comfortable and relaxed pieces such as chaise-longues or daybeds.

Lighting and Accessories

Discreet lighting will unify your Boho home and complete the feeling of tranquility and comfort. Instead of hanging lamps, use various lamps and candles.

Embracing the natural world is the key to this style. Use plants in your decor, a trend that never goes out of style and brings vitality to any space, improving air quality and making it more beautiful. Philodendrons and lilies are an excellent choice, as well as Succulents – now widely available in a wide variety of colors and textures. These plants need little more than a sunny spot, ideal for those who don’t have the time or vocation to take care of plants.

To finish it perfectly, add to your Boho decor family heirlooms, handcrafted items and objects from your travels. Accessories should tell a story. So show what you truly love: tapestries, vintage bottles, traditional hats, maps, porcelain … the choice is yours. And remember that although the Bohemian style is eclectic, it can also be chic and glamorous. So don’t be afraid to try on an ornate chandelier or a large, majestic gold-framed mirror. The only rule here is that each item must tell a story.
